Pregnant in the Piedmont is a pregnancy, baby, early childhood and parenting expo presented by Piedmont Doulas, a local business that offers birth doulas, postpartum doulas and childbirth education. With a desire to bring pregnancy, birth and childhood businesses and information together under one roof, we began with an idea, and grew it to a yearly event. Pregnant In The Piedmont showcases the area's medical resources for pregnancy and early childhood, nonprofit and community resources, and it also presents the many businesses in our area, that are focused on growing families. Pregnant In The Piedmont isn't only for pregnancy! We encompass babyhood, early childhood, and offer parenting resources as well. Mini workshops are offered throughout the event (We call them "Tiny Talks") and we also have activities for children. Bring the whole family!

These days, everyone is busy and we know that you want to prepare for your birth and postpartum. But at the same time, it's difficult to find time to go to classes week after week. We've designed our curriculum to do the most important things in person at our two classes and then we give you our videos, homework, and other resources for the three online classes at home on your own time. Our classes provide the education that families need to understand common scenarios in labor, make informed decisions about their care, and be prepared for their birth.
Class 1 (online): Nutrition and exercise in pregnancy and facilitating great communication with your care providers
Class 2 (in-person): What to expect in each stage of labor, comfort techniques, and positions to use in labor
Class 3 (online): When and why different medical interventions may be needed in birth
Class 4 (in-person): The pros and cons of interventions, cesarean birth, the immediate postpartum period, and developing your preferences
Class 5 (online): The fourth trimester, newborn care, and postpartum preparation for the whole family
One of the greatest benefits of taking this childbirth class is that we are able to cover a lot of material in a very short amount of time since there's the online portion that you can do at your own pace.
Sarah Carter and Jessica Bower teach this class together. Sarah taught The Bradley Method Childbirth classes to hundreds of students and Jessica has a Master's Degree in Education. Together they have attended over 350 births and they bring their passion for education and experience in birth to you in this unique class. The cost of the class is $150. This includes all materials, 2 in-person classes (6 hours of in-person instruction) and the 3 online classes as well.

HypnoBirthing concepts have been around for ages. Hundreds of years ago, women gave birth in a supportive environment, often attended by other women who were experienced in labor and birth. Free of fear and confident in their own bodies, women birthed their babies into the world calmly and easily. HypnoBirthing helps women release modern fear-based myths about birth and begin to learn the techniques that will help them give birth peacefully and free of the fear and tension that can cause pain.
Developed by Marie Mongan, a mother, grandmother and hypnotherapist, HypnoBirthing was developed over three decades ago. Since then, many women, including Kate Middleton, Jessica Alba and Angelina Jolie, have used HypnoBirthing techniques to birth their babies. Karen was certified by the HypnoBirthing® Institute and is excited to share the HypnoBirthing concepts and techniques with expectant mothers in NC.
The best part of HypnoBirthing? You can’t do it wrong! HypnoBirthing techniques can be used with no pain medication, epidurals, caesarians, inductions, VBAC – however your birth unfolds.
50% fewer epidurals
45% reduction in cesarean section births
Shorter labor by an average of 3 hours
Decreased use of artificial induction
Fewer pre-term and low-weight babies
Reduction or elimination of fatigue during labour, leaving the mother fresh, awake and with energy for the birthing
Happier and more content mothers and babies
More alert babies who are able to nurse almost immediately
Special bonding between the mother, baby and birthing companion
Fewer cases of postnatal depression
Faster recovery after labor
Active role for birthing companion
Ongoing skills in relaxation and self-hypnosis to manage everyday stress
